About going to AA meetings...
Ritualistic prayers repeated from rote memory...vapid jokes answered with obligatory laughter...posers using worn-out phrases...believing that going against the group norms gives a permit to go against the group norms ("excuse me for double dipping")...outright lies ("I'll say this and shut up")...mere assertions spoken with gravity, as if a personal assertion were a profound metaphysical truth (and you better pay attention!)...performative posturing and virtue signaling...
I don't like vapidity and stupidity, conformity and group think.
But I need meetings if I'm going to maintain quality sobriety. Some say.
I just need to find a better meeting where the people aren't so boring, but such meetings don't exist anywhere on Earth.
Church meetings ("services", "mass", etc.) are a bit better, because there's no sharing, and at times the pastor/priest will give an interesting sermon. At AA meetings, occasionally someone will share a bit of useful wisdom or an intelligent insight, but unfortunately, that's rare.
