Left vs Right

The terms "left and right" when referring to political views, started in the 18th century French National Assembly, which had a center aisle separating one side of the chairs from the other. Those with revolutionary views sat on the left side, and those with conservative views on the right side. Eventually this seating arrangement led to people referring to politicians as "on the right", or, "on the left" (of the center aisle). Today it means the same thing when referring to political opinions. The Left wants so-called progress and revolutionary change; the Right wants things to mostly stay the same. Both sides heap verbal abuse on each other. The left thinks the right are cruel heartless bastards. The right thinks the left are sick twisted people. Looking at this closely, it becomes obvious that these two groups are polar opposites. For example, the left advocates constantly for some form of social collectivism; the right advocates for individual rights over the rights of society. It comes down to this: freedom vs tyranny. Also, good vs evil. An ancient theme going back at least 8,000 years or so.
